RAF Typhoon FGR4s have operated alongside France's air force in a joint strike on an underground arms cache in Syrian territory used by the IS group, per a report from the UK's MoD.
The facility, identified by surveillance, was believed to be containing munitions and bombs, the statement said, and was located in mountains just to the north of the historic site of Palmyra in central Syria.
"Our aircraft utilized laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to target a series of entry passages leading to the facility... initial indications are that the target was engaged successfully," the MoD said.
There was no sign of any civilian impact in the operation on Saturday evening and every plane involved made a safe return, the ministry further stated.
The Typhoon FGR4s were assisted by a Voyager tanker plane.
The Islamic State group - alternatively referred to as ISIS - imposed militant control over parts of both Syria and Iraq prior to its 2019 collapse.
"This operation demonstrates British leadership, and determination to operate in unison with our allies, to stamp out any revival of Daesh and their dangerous and violent ideologies in the area," Britain's Defence Chief the Defence Secretary stated.
UK warplanes have performed patrols over Syria to "prevent any attempted resurgence" of IS following its military defeat at the climactic battle in Baghuz in 2019, the MoD reported.
"I extend gratitude to the personnel of the UK armed forces who took part in this mission for their expertise and their valour," Healey added. "Including them were numerous British troops deployed over the holidays. This operation, to remove terrorist threats who endanger our security, shows how our armed forces are prepared to act, continuously, ensuring Britain's security within its borders and powerful internationally."
In December, the American forces executed what it termed a "large-scale strike" on Daesh sites in the country, following an ambush claimed the lives of two US servicemembers and a civilian linguist in the Palmyra area.
The UN says Daesh still has roughly 5-7 thousand combatants in Iraq and Syria.
