Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then located many other smeared cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the incident," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for information.
A senior official stated the incident left him speechless and needed to be solved promptly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
